Spring Ridge Middle School students were warned "not to go to school tomorrow" in a message that indicated a student would be bringing a gun into the building on Feb. 16.

According to the sheriff's office, deputies learned that a student had also been asking others how to obtain a gun, which prompted the social media post.

Investigators were able to identify the student, contacted their parents, and searched both their home and the student's personal items; no gun was found.

"All students involved will be disciplined in accordance with the St. Mary's County Public School's Code of Conduct," school officials said.
